Founders Story "Why Mantra"
Mantra started, as all great things do, over chats and surf banter between two middle-aged legends who refused to act their age.
Luke - Aussie adventurer who pioneered “New Wave Developments” building an array of projects in Bali
Rory - A sports physiotherapist, author, speakers, retreat facilitator and wordsmith who traded clinic climes for digital nomad life transforming communities instead of just injured tendons and torn muscles.
The dream team met through mutually swelling surf stoke and one badly bungled attempt by Luke to go running at the beach chasing his dog, before an invisible pot-hole in the sand got the better of him. Rory was happy to help a mate, as Luke nursed his snapped achilles tendon back to form on his road to recovery and surfing again.
One day, Luke asked him what Rory was working on, or dreaming of creating. Having built trust over the weeks he shared openly about his visionary idea - a wellness space that enabled and empowered visitors to embody balanced living and a community to support each other. Luke didn’t say much at the time, but was happy to listen.
Months later, a few more physio sessions down and Luke thought “Hell, I’ve manifested epic architecture estates across this island...maybe I’ll throw down on Rory’s hippie retreat reconception.” He reached out to Rory and said he had 15 are, and asked if I wanted to build it with him. Rory thought he was joking, but said “hell yes” anyways.
A week later the project started to take shape in June of 2022. Rory shared the Figma design with all the elements he had pulled together as he travelled the world running retreats. A week later Luke came back with the architecture dessgn,
Over the next 18 months shovels hit dirt faster than you can say Tri Hita Karana. As he built the foundation in a quiet spot next to the “sanctuary”. Surrounded by green zone land, 2 minutes from famous Uluwatu surf breaks. A place where the jungle of Bali, met the oceans of Uluwatu. A special place, that people could call home and find stillness in the busy world.
19 months later, her we stand together. Welcome to Mantra Wellness Centre, a home away from home.
This space is for all of us. It's time to build longer tables together, not just higher fences.
